This project, created for the CGMA The Art of Lighting for Games course, leverages real-time Lumen lighting and the Ultra Dynamic Sky tool to replicate the natural, atmospheric style of The Revenant. The focus was on achieving realism and crafting an immersive, rugged environment.
The lighting captures a late afternoon setting, with a low-angle sun casting soft, long shadows that enhance depth and drama. Cool blue-gray tones amplify the landscape's intensity, while low ambient light highlights natural shadows and rugged terrain.
Clouds played a key role: dense stratus created an overcast vibe, sparse cumulus added texture, and cirrus clouds up high gave a sense of scale. I also added fog and mist to enhance forested and mountainous areas. Inspired by The Revenant, I used wide camera lenses to make the environment feel bigger and more imposing. Finishing touches like a soft vignette and gentle bloom gave the scene a cinematic polish.
